I’ve collected some front pages on the Benazir Bhutto assassination, in international and U.S. flavors.

Heads up: After you hit "post" things may be slow and you may get an error. Most likely, your comment did post. Apologies. I'm looking for a fix.

I keep returning to this blog for ideas on layout design and the comparison entries I see from time to time are by far the most interesting IMO. It's unlike anything anything else because only a newspaper designer would fathom what other publications are doing; readers just read their own daily local. Then, there's the question of what on-line readers are seeing.

Some of the best and more dramatic front pages were made by Adonis Durado, visual editor of the new Emirates Business 24/7 in Dubai.

See here the five options made for his newspaper:

I liked the Rocky Mountain News' photo choice the most. Even though the photo is from before the news event, Bhutto being shot, I think it reveals the most to American readers. When I saw a similar photo at our news meeting, I had no idea she had so many supporters (I mean can you imagine anyone bringing that kind of crowd in the US?), and I'd guess a lot of other American's didn't either. So I think that photo coupled with the headline, really told readers that RMN was going to be advancing the story beyond what you already saw on TV or the Web.
