This is just the most awesomest thing ever. Scott Walker, an assistant managing editor at the Birmingham News, has hacked together an old newspaper box, a Mac Mini, and a flat screen monitor to create a digital newsstand that will grab pages from the internet and display them in the rack. Brilliant!
Would Mr. Walker be so kind as to tell how much this brilliant contraption cost to make?

Newspaper machine - Ebay for around $100 with shipping
Mac mini - $600
LCD Monitor - $150
You can do this project for about $800 - $900

Posted by: Josh Jackson at June 26, 2007 11:39 AMJosh think about the possibilities
imagine if you added a printer into the mix and allowed people to buy a sheet of news from say 5 minutes ago as soon as it broke.
if it was a touch screen people could also scroll through the headlines in their favorite section to see if there was news in there they wanted to read

Posted by: Jenice at June 26, 2007 6:25 PMJosh, if you click on the blog link you can get a bit more info on it. And PS, are you the Josh Jackson I used to work with in Tuscaloosa? Because if so, it remains a small world (wide web).
Posted by: Carla Jean at June 28, 2007 2:21 PMHas anyone come up with an Applescript or Automator workflow to pull front pages from Newseum? I've tried automator with it's Safari actions and it doesn't see the image links on the thumbnail pages.
