St. Petersburg Times Executive Editor Neil Brown previews the long-awaited Oct. 16 redesign of the paper today. He says the changes include narrowing the page width, “More news summaries and graphics to keep you ‘in the know,’” and more references to content on the Web.

Also in Florida redesign news, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel debuted some changes last Sunday. Nicole Bogdas has the details.

Heads up: After you hit "post" things may be slow and you may get an error. Most likely, your comment did post. Apologies. I'm looking for a fix.

I hope we can see some hi-res images of the St. Pete redesign soon.

Ms. Bogdas,
I've always considered the Sun-Sentinel to be a trendsetter and, overall, one of the most beautiful U.S. papers. I never imagined the front page could look even better than it did, but the redesign just takes it to a much higher level. I hope you don't mind sharing your insight with a couple of questions:
1) What inspired the new look? Is there a particular objective that motivated your paper to redesign?
2) I've noticed a few other papers (Bakersfield Californian, Kansas City Star, for example) that are incorporating color screens into their redesign. Is this coincidence? To use my own goofy analogy, are color screens to 21st century what color labels were to the '90s?

Rick,

I got no answers for you, man. I left the paper five months ago as the process was just getting underway. Let me direct you to AME for Visuals Tim Frank, you can reach him through newspagedesigner.com. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.
