The Wall Street Journal today started running that front-page ad they announced in July. Vrooomm!

Heads up: After you hit "post" things may be slow and you may get an error. Most likely, your comment did post. Apologies. I'm looking for a fix.

It doesn't look all that bad.

I wonder how much it sold for...

Look different, Hi quality small ad, is good start.

Looks better than the sometimes gaudy and inappropriate ads that ran on every paper's front page in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries, I suppose.

But it's still a huge leap backwards in terms of credibility. Front pages are for news, not ads, commentary or editorials.

From a reporter's standpoint and longtime WSJ reader, I hate it.

From a designer's viewpoint, I wish they had offered a banner ad along the bottom instead. I think it would make the page look a little more balanced and it would still create an illusion of a front page news block, unencumbered with ads.

I'm agree with MV, need more balance. Ad look great but with a banner ad like USA TODAY it would be better

They do offer a banner option. There was at least one 1.5"-deep strip ad this week.
