Above are the front pages from today’s Kerala Kaumudi in Kerala, and Mid Day, a Mumbai tabloid. Below, some inside pages from Mid Day. Warning: The big photo on that doubletruck is pretty gruesome.
(Thanks to sajeev, Jan and Mario!)
A great example of how a powerful picture can convey the gruesome and horrific nature of these acts, more than words. Thank you for sharing these news pages.
I am from Kerala, so it is kind of surprising to see a Malayalam front page on here. What made you pick the kaumudi front page?
Holy. Cow.
Love the Midday cover, the spare facts and forward spin.
I thought the double-truck photo was from 93. . .the fact that it's recent, I wouldn't have shown that. Those are people who just died, and whose families are mourning. "I passed limbs on the tracks" is enough.
Another thing: I understand the DT was a flashback, because it said "flashback" in the corner. But "Blast from the Past"?? I don't know about in India, but in America that phrase is meant to be flip, even funny. A Brendan Fraser movie, FCOL. I think to use it about deadly bombings is in poor taste. This doesn't strike me as a NY-Post type of publication -- but if that's the tone they normally take, I stand corrected. :-/
Posted by: Denise Covert at July 13, 2006 1:31 PMI agree the Mid-Day pages are compelling. I'm not sure about that BOMBay 7/11 headline, though. It seems too flip.
Posted by: Dave at July 13, 2006 3:59 PMI wouldn't have shown that doubletruck photo. Considering the audience, which I am sure consists of young adults, the editors should not have either published that photo all together, or have a warning on somewhere. There is clearly a headless body, a mimed corpse with its muscles "hanging out," and someone’s body with his intestine detached. Reminds me of that scene from Saving Private Ryan.
