Today's lesson: How to use the "Hot L" device in an uninentionally humorous manner. (via Hit and Run)
Nice catch.
Come to think of it, Mr. Potatohead does look a little menacing with those eyebrows.
I think I'm a bit slow, but I don't get the mistake. Is it because Mr. Potato Head is situated above the al-Qaida story? If that's the case, it doesn't really seem like a mistake to me.

Not so much a "mistake" as an "odd juxtaposition." Although if that were, say, a big photo of Donald Rumsfeld or Ted Kennedy instead of Mr. P. above that headline, we might be getting into the Realm of "Mistake." Also the Realm of "Many Angry Phone Calls to the Ombudsman."

Posted by: dusty altena at April 27, 2006 5:34 PMMakes me smile, but you are grossly underestimating the reader's intelligence. The tight crop takes everything out of context. If you click on the image and wiew the entire page everything is clearly defined.
Again, it's just amusing! That's all! No further comment about reader or editor intelligence is intended. Lighten up, me hearties!
Posted by: Mark at April 27, 2006 8:02 PMOmigod! That's truly dreadful. Mr. Potato Hitler is as closely associated with that al-Quaeda article as Mr. Bush is with the one about his poll-driven call for a gasoline price probe. If that were at our paper, heads would roll.
