Malofiej Winners Announced

The Malofiej 14 International Infographics Awards, judged last week at the University of Navarra in Spain, have been announced. The Best of Show/Peter Sullivan Prize in the print category went to Spain's El Correo for its special "Muerte de Juan Pablo II," and in the online category it went to the BBC for its British election coverage. Translated from the press release:

In the print categories, seven gold medals, 16 silver and 33 bronze have been granted. They went to El Correo (Spain) and The New York Times (the USA), with two gold medals each. Others that won gold in this edition of the Malofiej Prizes are The Washington Post (USA), National Geographic (USA) and The Oregonian (USA). By number of medals, El Correo excelled with 9 medals (two gold, three silver and four bronze), and The New York Times with 12 medals (two gold, four silver and five bronze). Jurors also granted two mentions to the La Voz de Galicia (Spain) and to Mundo Estranho (Brazil). By country, Spain and the United States each won 21 medals.

In the online categories, five gold medals, 12 silver and 16 bronze were awarded. In addition to the Peter Sullivan Prize, gold medals were awarded to elpais.es (Spain), guardian.co.uk (United Kingdom), sun-sentinel.com (USA), nationalgeographic.com (USA) and newsbbc.co.uk (United Kingdom). By number of awards, elpais.es (five medals: one gold, three silver and one bronze) and elmundo.es (nine medals: two silver and seven bronze). By countries, Spain won 20 medals, the United States, eight, and United Kingdom, three.
