The still photo division of the National Press Photographers Association's Best of Photojournalism contest is being judged this week at the Poynter Institute, and winners are being announced as the week progresses, including a first place in the Conceptual Photographic Illustration category for the above Andrea Levy photo from The Plain Dealer. This page was much-discussed here. Also The Los Angeles Times won NPPA's Best Use of Photography Quarterly Clip Contest. You can see the quarterly winners here: 1st Quarter (judges comments), 2nd Quarter (judges comments), 3rd Quarter (judges comments), 4th Quarter (judges comments).

Heads up: After you hit "post" things may be slow and you may get an error. Most likely, your comment did post. Apologies. I'm looking for a fix.

Congrats to all the winners, especially Andrea Levy and the Plain Dealer – this was one of my favorite pages of the year.

I couldn't be more proud of Andrea Levy. She's a pro's pro, and one of the nicest human beings to grace this planet.

This does serve to show you how arbitrary contests are, though. Didn't even garner an Award of Excellence in SND ... neither as a photo illustration or as a page.
