He Never Saw the East Coast
'Til He Moved to the West

Paul Wallen, the managing editor for visuals at the Lewiston, Maine, Sun Journal is moving to the San Diego Union-Tribune to design sports pages. He says:

... One of the things I've really enjoyed during my time here is the chance to dabble in sports design. That experience has rekindled my love for working with sports content, all these years after starting out as a sports writer and sports editor at a small daily in Marshall, Texas. It has been on my mind for quite a while that if I could just pick the one thing I have the most fun doing, it would be sports design.

The Sun Journal, a 36,000 circulation daily, won 23 awards in the recent SND Best of Newspaper Design contest, putting it in such company as the San Jose Mercury News and New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Wallen has worked for the Baltimore Sun, the Lexington Herald-Leader and The Virginian-Pilot, among others.

Congrats!

Heads up: After you hit "post" things may be slow and you may get an error. Most likely, your comment did post. Apologies. I'm looking for a fix.

Congratulations, Mr. Wallen.

Might I suggest driving straight through. Use the bathroom when you leave Lewiston and then don't stop the car even once until you arrive in San Diego.

Just a thought.
