Gaspard's in Vegas, Baby!

3:02 AM, January 16, 2006

Bill!
Bill Gaspard, immediate past president of the Society for News Design and former news design director at the LA Times, has been named deputy managing editor of the Las Vegas Sun. He'll be in charge of design, graphics and photography.

Gaspard redesigned the Sun in 1998 and again last fall, giving the paper its current look. He also designed the Sun's companion papers, the weekly In Business Las Vegas and the News community weeklies, which are circulated in seven editions in Henderson, Boulder City, Summerlin, Spring Valley and the Lakes.

Bryan Volk, who was a designer at The Charlotte Observer and the LA Times before working for the Walt Disney Co., is the new assistant design director.

The Las Vegas Sun is an 8- to 10-page daily broadsheet that, since last fall, has been inserted inside its JOA partner the Las Vegas Review-Journal (Stephens Media Group, 165,000). The Sun has separate ownership and news staff.

Congrats, pals!

Heads up: After you hit "post" things may be slow and you may get an error. Most likely, your comment did post. Apologies. I'm looking for a fix.

Congrats, Bill and Bryan!

It's about time you got a steady job . . . seriously - best wishes on your new gigs.

Just glanced over their website and read a story or two...there's some really interesting reporting going on at that paper.

In an unrelated story, shares of MGM Mirage climbed to a 2-year high today in heavy trading.
