'Stead of Going to Heaven, She Went to Jacksonville

8:12 PM, January 5, 2006

Our good friend Denise Reagan will start Jan. 30 in the newly created position of Assistant Managing Editor/Visual Journalism at the Florida Times-Union in Jacksonville.

I will oversee a talented and energetic staff of designers, photographers and graphic artists. And I will partner with the editors of the paper as the T-U starts a process of reinterpreting itself. Stay tuned!

After the birth of my baby 9 months ago, I left my job as news design editor at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel to do consulting with MGRedesign. It was a difficult decision to return to working full-time in a newsroom, but this opportunity was too good to ignore.

I was born and raised in Jacksonville until I left for college at the University of Florida in Gainesville. I've been away for 17 years (Fort Wayne, Detroit, Minneapolis, Savannah, Fort Lauderdale), but Jacksonville is still home to me. My parents, sister, brother-in-law, nephews and many longtime friends all live there.

Huzzah!

Heads up: After you hit "post" things may be slow and you may get an error. Most likely, your comment did post. Apologies. I'm looking for a fix.

Glad to see this news go public ...

Hurray to you, Denise, for jumping back into the day-to-day workforce to help the editors in Jacksonville transform the paper. It's an exciting move.

I'm confident we will see some cool things coming from the T-U in 2006, and I could not be more proud in this AME choice.

Best of luck (not that you will need it), my friend.

Kudos,

I agree with Matt.

I've been waiting to gush praise and congrads to one of my favorite friends. I couldn't be happier for you to return home to your family, and in addition, help transform the T-U's visual journalism.

Way to go, Denise!!

Bravo, Times-Union!

Tampa ... Orlando ... Fort Lauderdale ... Miami ... Palm Beach ... I ask you: Is Florida America's hottest market for newspaper design? This whole Reagan-run T-U is only going to fan the flames. Congrats!

We will never forgive you----for being the best mentor and manager that has come this way---and then leaving us...... for a baby no less.
We all really miss you and wish you the best. The folks at T-U are very lucky.

Congrats Denise.

Sounds like a terrific job. And going "home" really adds some great-tasting icing on an already sweet cake... Best of luck, and have fun!
