Not-So-Up-to-Date in Kansas City

BREAKING! You know that high-zoot Garcia Media redesign the Kansas City Star is working on? Look at this:

Well, that's not the redesign. But it is the cover of Sunday's paper. To mark the paper's 125th anniversary, the newspaper produced a special section and produced an old-style front page. Here are more pages, courtesy Kansas City Star front-page designer Charles Gooch.

For all the hubbub about the new Baltimore Sun (and it does look nice, I guess), there is something comforting and readable about the old-style cover. As Tufte has said: if people couldn't read lots of information in a small space, the Wall Street Journal would have gone out of business years ago. (As would have most Japanese dailies.) Sometimes, you know, it is about the content. Insert something about lipstick on a pig....
