Heads up: After you hit "post" things may be slow and you may get an error. Most likely, your comment did post. Apologies. I'm looking for a fix.

Isn't it sad that sometime tragic has to happen before we tighten up security?

We live in a society that has to balance openness and access with security. What is sad is that we have not found the balance. Our security measures are often ineffectual or simply designed to give the appearance of security without making us secure. (See airports for an example.)

Are judges and others more or less secure with gun-toting deputies? Are we more secure with easy access to weapons? Do tragic events help us learn to improve security or merely make us more afraid?

I obviously don't have all the answers, but I don't think increasing gun access and use has helped. I don't think restricting citizen movement has helped. I think we need to look for other answers.
