New Look

3:46 AM, February 14, 2005

OK, everything seems to be pretty much in order. There are lot more front pages over there on the left, many of which you will not find at the Newseum. Some of them may display a bit funky in some versions of IE. For this, Bill Gates is very sorry. Some older archive pages may also look funky until I get around to tweaking some image sizes in them. For this, I am very sorry. The rotating slogans up above the nameplate there are various newspaper mottoes, some now extinct. If you've got any more, send 'em my way.

Heads up: After you hit "post" things may be slow and you may get an error. Most likely, your comment did post. Apologies. I'm looking for a fix.

very good

Most excellent.

Somehow, I was expecting you to redesign as a Tabloid . . .

Posted by: Robb Montgomery at February 14, 2005 6:42 AM

Gives us the New York Sun's front page! The best-designed paper in the region, if you ask me.

Very nice. Well done.

Beautiful site. One other comment: The Globe and Mail isn't a Toronto newspaper. While printed in the city, it is considered a National paper.

Posted by: Kelly at February 14, 2005 10:50 AM

Wonderful, Mark! Just wonderful! Keep up the good work, dude!

Posted by: Charles Apple at February 14, 2005 5:11 PM

Yeah, Kelly, and the the SUN-TIMES is actually printed in Chicago but is considered a GLOBAL newspaper. Wonder why that is?

Puh-lease. Kellly the G&M should be tickled to be even a linked to on this fine site. And, lucky to be surviving in a competitive and ethnically fragmented media market - Toronto.

I don't see the National Post, The Toronto Sun, the Toronto Star or any of the zillion of ethnic publications that would be proud to be associated with Toronto listed here . .. what a silly, imperious comment.

Roger, you're wrong.

Nice look! Keep up the great work.

Pretty page, but I have to admit I miss the quick load of the old one.

Posted by: Stephen Coles at February 15, 2005 2:19 PM

Everyone: Thanks! Glad you like it!

Gene and Roger: Gosh, it's good to see you guys arguing again.

Stephen: Hmmm. I'm wondering if that may have more to do with the fact that a lot of recent entries have been a bit image heavy. I'll tweak the main index to show fewer posts. Perhaps that will help.

Posted by: Mark at February 15, 2005 4:01 PM

Neat. But the title is a bit too big

Posted by: Danto at February 15, 2005 9:34 PM

Now things are loading quicker. I'm thinking the problem was my connection earlier. Very lovely overall — even though I'm not a Cheltenham fan. Agree with Danto, especially if you'll be showing lots of nice pages in your entries. Don't want to limit the amount of imagery above the fold.

Lovely changes. One criticism: The rail on the left is flush with the edge of my browser window. Is this Bill Gates' problem or yours? Keep up the good work.

Looks great, perfect suit of clothes for the job I'd say. Love the favicon and the treatment of the links especially. Congrats.

Nice clean look. Very UNdistracting.

Hey the redesign is great!!!

this site is valuable for so many reasons, its had not to visit at least once a day, but for me there's just one thing missing, the weather.

With so many papers (internationally too) doing so many variations on this theme, there's a lot of visual material there to talk about.

Yeah, ok so that's what my Masters these is on, but hey worth a try.

Great site, keep it up.
