If the front page of the new Press looks like a Web site, that's no accident. Officials with the Grand Rapids Press turned to international newspaper designer Mario Garcia, who wanted to create something up to date but traditional enough to appeal a midwest community.

And like most papers he redesigned, Garcia knows the reaction will be strong.

"Normally in about three weeks, they begin to get used to it, and if you ask them a year from now, they will have no recollection whatsoever of the paper that they're crying about today," he said.
